Originally published in 1904 and out of print ever since, Southgate Books are delighted to make this work available to a new generation. Franz Boas (1858–1942) was a pioneering anthropologist who became fascinated with the Inuit of Baffin Island in Canada and went on to study the Inuit throughout the region. This work describes the folklore of the Inuit, or "Eskimos" as Boas described them, and compares and contrasts it with other native American peoples and with Inuits in the Asiatic north-west and Greenland.
